Tarabon is a country situated in the southwest coast of the Westlands. It’s capital, Tanchico, is a port situated on the western coast on the Aryth Ocean. Tarabon’s eastern border abuts Amadicia, and its northern border is with the Almoth Plain. It’s people are called Taraboner.

Tarabon is located on the west coast of the Westlands, along the Aryth Ocean. It’s capital city is Tanchico, located at the mouth of the River Andahar.

Taraboners claim themselves descendants of the Age of Legends, and call themselves the Tree of Man. When Almoth still lived, it was rumored that Tarabon actually had pieces of Avendesora. The tree in their bannder and sigil celebrates this heritage. In FY 1006, three nobles of Artur Hawkwing’s regional government, Lord Haren Maseed, Lady Tazenia Nerenhald and Lord Boral Amadia, took Tanchico and formed a nation. Lord Boral was murdered, subsequently Haren became King and Tazenia became Panarch. By the time of 500 NE the tradition of male King and female Panarch was firmly established.

Tarabon is ruled jointly by the Panarch and King, who are always of the opposite sex. The Kingship is hereditary, and the Panarch is elected by the Assembly of Lords. The Panarch wears the Crown of the Tree made of gold trefoil leaves and a stole embroidered with trees. The Panarch is equal to the king in authority, and is responsible for collecting taxes, customs and duties, while he determines how the money is spent. The Panarch has authority over the Civil Watch and the Panarch’s Legion, while he controls the rest of the army. She is in charge of all courts with the exception of the High Court of the King. The Assembly of Lords is comprised of actual lords, though the Assembly’s only real power is to vote for the Panarch. After the Seanchan conquered Tarabon, the King and Panarch refused to submit and a new King and Panarch were installed. The former king, Andric, was killed and the Panarch, Amathera Aelfdene Casmir Lounault was subsequently made da’covale.

Being comprised largely of port cities, excise and custom are charged in Tarabon. Customs men are marked by a brass key on a chain around their necks. Tarabon has very few sea ships, so it relies mainly upon exports. One of Tarabon’s most important products is olive oil. Another main export is fringed rugs, each of which can easily bring in a full purse of silver. It also was known to export fireworks, dyes, and other luxury items, though it fell on hard times when forced into conflict with the Dragonsworn.

Golden hair and brown eyes are not an unusual combination for a Taraboner.

Women often wear thin, clinging gowns that are almost as revealing as the Domani. Men wear baggy white trousers and coats embroidered with scroll-work on the shoulders. Loose fitting shirts are worn under the coats. Both men and women wear a transparent veil, men occasionally masking their face completely. In some locations, face masks are matter of course for the anonymity it lends to both men and women. All classes wear a similar style and can be told apart by the quality of material. It is the style of the women to wear their hair in many thin braids often with beads. Men often sport a thick mustache and wear a dark cylindrical cap on their thick dark hair.

The Illuminators were founded in Tanchico and are a guild to hold and protect the secret of illuminations (fireworks), and will do so at even the cost of murder. They usually provided entertainment for lords and kings, but also sell to the general public. Though the houses of the Guild of Illuminators have been destroyed, it is speculated they are looking to start a new house in Amadicia.

The People
Aeldrine Marinye
Aeldrine Marinye was a dye merchant from Tanchico. When Aeldrine chose to become a merchant, her mother Collaris disapproved. She did, however, amass a tidy fortune trading dyes. One of the things that she taughter her daughter, Beonin, was it was always possible to better yourself. Later, Beonin continued a “family tradition” by going to the White Tower and becoming Aes Sedai against Aeldrine’s wishes. While on her way to Tar Valon, Beonin looks over some jewlery passed on to her by her mother and grandmother. These momentoes made her think of them.

Aledrin
Aledrin is an Aes Sedai of the White Ajah. She has dark golden hair, worn in a net instead of the typical Taraboner braids, and liquid brown eyes. She is very plump and has a dress with wide white sleeves and a snowy panel on the front that accentuates her berth. She is from Tarabon. She was an Accepted in the White Tower during the Aiel War when the Dragon is reborn. She is the second youngest Sitter in the Rebel Hall of the Tower. It is therefore her duty to weave the ward against eavesdropping in a closed session of the Hall. She has joined with the Salidar Aes Sedai and has been elected a Sitter on the Salidar Hall. She votes YES on the Rebel Aes Sedai declaring war on Elaida do Avriny a’Roihan. She votes YES in the Rebel Hall of the Tower for an alliance with the Black Tower. At Lelaine Akashi’s emergency meeting of the Hall, she stands to accept the offer from the Dragon Reborn of bonding forty-seven Asha’man.

She is kicked out of the Guild of Illuminators in Cairhien when Rand al’Thor destroys her fireworks in order to escape from Shadowspawn. While on the run, Mat Cauthon and Thom save her from members of her former guild who are trying to kill her for selling fireworks independently. As a reward she gives a few fireworks to Mat, which prove useful later on.
Aludra then joins Valan Luca’s Travelling Curcus and meets Nynaeve al’Meara and Elayne Trakand while they flee from Tanchico. When Luca’s traveling show stops in Ebou Dar, she encounters Mat again, along with Tuon, Selucia, Thom, Juilin, Thera, and a number of freed damane and sul’dam. The show again flees the Seanchan, this time with Mat and his companions as well. Mat tries to find out the secrets of Aludra’s fireworks and even steals a few kisses from her, but she sends him on his way to find out how she could use a bell-founder.

Aludra is also currently working on a new type of weapon, her Dragons and Dragon Eggs, to avenge herself against the Seanchan. Dragons are bronze lofting tubes that launch powerful fireworks at a target and do great damage. They seem to be similar in design to early Turkish bombard cannons, though much smaller in size and delivering an explosive round instead of a round of solid metal or stone as was common in early cannons. Mat works out what she is doing with the bellfounder and in return she starts to give him the secrets to fireworks. She decides to leave Luca’s show and continue travelling with Mat. She has created weapons from fireworks, such as an archaic form of grenade. She lights these, which are then thrown into the Seanchan army chasing Tuon for the one hundred thousand gold crown reward, result being that the Seachan force was decimated completely. Aludra gives Mat a list of materials she will need in order to make the cannons for his army. It includes every bell-founder he can find as well as every possible scrap of tin and copper he can find. Mat grudgingly sets to work.

It was judged that she was stronger than Moiraine and Siuan, at least until they both reached their potential. Siuan passed the tests and spent her first months, and perhaps years, as an Aes Sedai being worked hard under Cetalia.

At this meeting, she berates Velina and Shevan for having nothing useful to say. She is part of the group that confronts Elaida about the prospect of negotiations. She argues very strongly in favour of them and not allowing any fighting to occur in Tar Valon. She fears the fact that the rebels could simply Travel into the city. Elaida grants her request to parley with the Rebel Aes Sedai, but insists that her conditions are met. Namely, that the Blue Ajah will cease to exist and that any sister that served under Egwene al’Vere must serve penance under Elaida’s guidance before being readmitted to any of the Ajahs. Logain thinks his ability is impressive, while Taim regards it as impossible. Due to his skill with Traveling and his lack of ability with most other weaves Androl often serves as a messenger and transporter which has earned him the derisive nickname “Pageboy” by members of Taim’s faction. Androl is one of the male channelers at the Black Tower that is still loyal to Rand al’Thor. When the Black Tower divides between those like him and Mazrim Taim’s questionably-motivated Asha’man, he begins to worry about the state of things. She confides to Cadsuane about how Jahar’s strength in the One Power increases in fits and starts. She and Jahar Travel to where the Rebel Aes Sedai are camped. There Lelaine Akashi calls an emergency meeting of the Hall. Jahar proposes the offer from Rand of bonding forty-seven Asha’man, which is accepted by the Hall.

She watches Rand’s meeting with the Daughter of the Nine Moons from a distance and Travels in as back up when it is revealed that the Daughter of the Nine Moons is actually Semirhage. She Heals Narishma after the fight. She takes part in helping Cadsuane interrogate Semirhage. She gets nowhere with her questioning though. She watches Aviendha weave a column of Air and Water and transport water from a river onto a out of control fire. She seems regretful that Aviendha will not be joining the White Tower. She stands with Cadsuane on the Bandar Eban walls to watch the ghostly procession that circuits the city at night. She is part of the plan to try and help Rand laugh again after learning from Nynaeve al’Meara that Rand burned a whole palace full of people away with Balefire. She is with Cadsuane when Nynaeve comes back with the whereabouts of Tam al’Thor. She is again with Cadsuane when an irate Tam al’Thor enters the room saying that Rand just tried to kill him and has just Traveled to Ebou Dar. She is in the Throne Room when Cadsuane Melaidhrin arrives. She is shocked at her being alive. Cadsuane then grabs her and grills her on all the events that have occurred recently.

She leaves Cairhien with Berelain and Perrin Aybara and Travels to Ghealdan to track down Masema Dagar.
Perrin sends her and Berelain to meet with Queen Alliandre. She brings Alliandre back to the camp and helps Faile and Berelain pressure her into keeping her oath of fealty to Perrin by staying with the army.
Later she is seen meeting with Masema by herself after Faile is kidnapped by the Shaido. She accompanies Perrin when he looks over the Shaido camped in Malden. She goes with Perrin and Berelain to So Habor, where they collect grain for their troops. She accompanies him back to camp and witnesses him cleave a Shaido prisoner’s hand off, when he is looking for answers on his missing wife.
She later goes with Perrin and Berelain when he makes his deal with the Seanchan. Berelain has become wary of Annoura ever since she learned of her meeting with Masema. When Perrin is meeting with Tylee Khirgan, Tylee tells Perrin of a rebellious group of Whitecloaks moving north, not far from where the camp is. Annoura informs the group that the Whitecloaks are led by Galad Damodred. Annoura assisted in the attack on the Shaido Aiel and the Wise Ones in the Battle of Malden to rescue Faile.

Liandrin
Liandrin (pronounced: lee-AHN-drihn) is an Aes Sedai of the Red Ajah, who is revealed to be Black Ajah. She has dark brown eyes and honey-colored hair, which she wears in a multitude of thin braids. She is pretty, having a doll’s face and a rosebud mouth. Liandrin is from Tarabon and she grew up envious of anyone with power (her father sold fruit from a barrow to feed his family). Despite her less-than-plentiful upbringing, she copies the way that nobles speak. If she is angry, she will revert back to her roots and speak like a commoner. She learned she could channel a year before enrolling as a novice, and swore the oaths as a Darkfriend before she even went to the White Tower, and sought out the Black Ajah as soon as she learned she could channel. During her time of learning to channel, she learned a basic, unreliable form of Compulsion – a form of weave that hurts the other person. She does not consider herself a wilder, however, as she loathes all wilders.

Liandrin is one of the representatives of the Red Ajah that go with the Amyrlin to Fal Dara. Liandrin convinced Nynaeve al’Meara, Egwene al’Vere, Elayne Trakand, and Min Farshaw that Rand al’Thor needed their help, and she led them through the Ways to Toman Head. When they came out, she betrayed them to the Seanchan. She then returned to the White Tower and, with the help of twelve other Black sisters, stole several ter’angreal from the Tower storerooms. They fled Tar Valon, killing 21 people, including three Aes Sedai and two Warders. Liandrin’s group traveled to Tear and set up camp in the Stone of Tear, obeying the Forsaken Be’lal. Nynaeve, Elayne, and Egwene followed them, but the Black sisters captured them again. After Rand took the Stone, they fled to Tanchico and Liandrin had Jaichim Carridin seize the Panarch’s Palace for them so that they could locate the male a’dam inside it. However, when riots broke out in the city, Liandrin and the others were once again forced to run.

Liandrin and the Black sisters traveled to Amador and stayed in the house of a Darkfriend merchant. It was there that Moghedien found them and took command of the group. Liandrin was ordered to search for Nynaeve, though she and her fellow Blacks had little success. When Moghedien was attacked by Nynaeve in Tel’aran’rhiod and was at her weakest, Liandrin seized her chance to try to Compel the Forsaken. Unfortunately for her, Moghedien blocked her attack and decided to punish her severely. She shielded her and tied it off in a knot so complicated, only another Forsaken could unravel it and Compelled her to live. Moghedien then ordered Temaile to soften her up and then give her to Evon and Amellia Arene to work as a scullery girl. When the Seanchan invaded Amadicia, Liandrin was captured by the High Lady Suroth and made da’covale. Alwhin, Suroth’s so’jhin now holds Liandrin’s a’dam. When Sylvase Caeren takes over as High Seat of her house, she pledges her support to Elayne and the use of Jaq in the questioning of Arymilla, Naean Arawn, and Elenia Sarand. Elayne uses Jaq’s services to question Doilin Mellar and the sisters of the Black Ajah that tried to kidnap her.

Unknown to Elayne, Jaq was a Darkfriend and was secretly carrying messages to and from the sisters and planning their escape. When Elayne disguised herself as one of the Forsaken and attempted to get information out of Chesmal Emry, Jaq tried to free the Black sisters. In the ensuing skirmish Jaq, along with Chesmal, Eldrith Jhondar, and Temaile Kinderode, were killed.

Amathera Aelfdene Casmir Lounault
Amathera Aelfdene Casmir Lounault is a former Taraboner noblewoman who was raised to the position of Panarch of Tarabon. She has many of the physical characteristics that are common to Taraboner females. She wears her long, dark hair in multiple braids and has large dark eyes. She has a pouty, rosebud mouth with a petulant look to it. She has not yet reached middle age and is quite beautiful.

Amathera was invested as Panarch despite being rejected by the Assembly of Lords. During the recent civil war in Tarabon, the Panarch’s Palace was surrounded by Whitecloaks and occupied by Liandrin and her group. Amathera was held prisoner by the Black sisters and tormented. She is then rescued by Elayne and Egeanin Tamarath, knocking out Temaile Kinderode who had been tormenting her, in the process. Although Amathera seemed to have no clue as to what the lives of the common people were like when she is raised as Panarch, Elayne thought that she had a true concern for justice. However, at least before being taken captive by the Seanchan, Amathera knew what her position was and knew what she could do and the respect that her position entailed. During that time, this often made her seem quite selfish.

When the Seanchan arrived in Tarabon, Amathera was captured, but refused to submit to them. As a result, she was made da’covale by the High Lady Suroth Sabelle Meldarath. She was renamed Thera and trained as a shea dancer. Thera was brought to Amadicia and later Ebou Dar, where Juilin Sandar fell in love with her. When Mat Cauthon and his group escaped, Juilin took Thera with him. She along with the rest of the group, join and travel in Valan Luca’s Traveling Show as a cover to escape Ebou Dar. She is still scared of Egeanin Tamarath and Tuon Athaem Kore Paendrag and still prostrates herself and the ground in front of them whenever they are near.

When Egeanin is demoted from the Blood, she tries to teach Amathera to stand up for herself and tries to befriend her. After a skirmish with Darkfriends in Maderin Mat and the rest of his group decide to leave Luca’s show. While riding through Altara they meet up with the Band of the Red Hand and begin to travel with them.

They are saved when Elayne Trakand and Siuan have to remind them about the dream not being real, in which case the nightmare fades away leaving only injury. She brings Siuan Sanche and Leane Sharif into the Little Tower to be Healed from Stilling by Nynaeve al’Meara. She is with the rest of the Salidar Six in Tel’aran’rhiod, when she summons Egwene to become Amyrlin. She has sworn an oath of fealty to Egwene. Egwene sends her on a secret meeting to meet with the group of nobles that block the Salidar army on the border of Andor. She has become a member of Egwene’s Council. She is with Egwene and Gareth when they survey the area around Tar Valon. After Egwene’s capture, Beonin returned to the White Tower and revealed the names of the Salidar spies in the White Tower to Elaida, as well as teaching her all the new weaves that have been discovered.
