NEW HINDERANCES

Block (Major)
This Hindrance is only available to characters with the Arcane Background: Channeling Edge.
You were born with the ability to Channel, a talent most have to become an Initiate in the
White Tower (or the Black Tower) to do. It sometimes comes with an innate “block,” an emotional
obstacle which you must first overcome before you can Embrace the Source — anger, excitement
or total relaxation are common ones. Whatever the case, you must make a Spirit check, which
requires a full round of concentration during which time you may take no other action other
than moving. Once you have successfully removed your block, you may Embrace the Source as normal. Environments that are not conducive to emotional control (in the middle of combat, under a time crunch, on a moving horse, etc.) impose a -2 penalty to the roll. As soon as the Source is released, the block returns. The block can be “bought off” by expending one advancement but not until you have achieved Seasoned rank.

Madness (Minor/Major)
Only men can take this Hindrance. Because of the Dark One’s taint on saidin, male Channelers face madness every time they Embrace the Source (see Madness in The Wheel of Time, below). The first time a male Channeler fails a madness check, he automatically gains this Hindrance at minor. The second time, the Hindrance becomes major. The third time he fails this check, the character loses his mind and becomes an NPC.
As a minor Hindrance, the player either loses -2 Charisma or selects an appropriate Phobia.
As a major Hindrance, the player either suffers a -2 to Notice rolls due to hallucinations or becomes depressed and starts off each session with 1 less Benny.
